“Two Fates” German Bronze Sculpture After the Antique Cast by R. Bellair

A very nice Grand Tour classical bronze group based on the original sculpture in the east pediment of the Parthenon by the Athenian sculptor Phidias while the missing extremities of that group have been re-imagined by the foundry. It depicts Aphrodite lying in the arms of Artemis; they both warm themselves, Aphrodite by pulling the diaphanous coverlet over her legs while Artemis pulls a cape over his shoulders. An element is missing from the outstretched hand of Aphrodite.

It is finished in a bole-red polychrome surface patina with relieved highlights throughout, this rich and vibrant under beeswax. It is a gorgeous cabinet bronze for any collector of Grand Tour works.
