This is a beautiful Ironstone Sauce Tureen, complete with lid, made by Mason’s of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, during the early part of the 19th century, circa 1820.<\/p>\n

This tureen and its lid are well potted in an elegant pedestal shape on a high oval foot. There are two moulded animal head handles to the base and a shaped knob to the top of the lid. The lid has an end cutaway for the insertion of a serving spoon.<\/p>\n

The pattern is called ” Table and Flower Pot” which is a detailed chinoiserie Mason’s pattern, as illustrated on page 104 in The Mason’s collectors Club book ” A Guide to Mason’s patent Ironstone patterns, circa 1813-circa 1848″ .
\n This piece is well hand painted with additional hand gilded highlights. A Tureen of the same shape and period is illustrated on Page 156 of Godden’s Guide to Mason’s China and the Ironstone Wares published by the Antique Collectors’ Club.<\/p>\n

Both the base and the lid are marked with various early Mason’s marks including the the circular and straight line impressed marks, as well as the green colour washed large crown marks, dating the piece to circa 1813 to 1820, the English, Late Georgian period.<\/p>\n

This is a very beautiful piece of early Mason’s in for display or use.<\/span><\/p>\n
