This is a very decorative ironstone large square serving dish complete with lid or cover, made by Mason’s of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, during the early part of the 19th century, circa 1818.<\/p>\n

Both pieces are well potted. The dish is square with a notched rim. The cover has an oval shape with canted corners and a shaped knob handle to its top.<\/p>\n

The pattern is called ” Chinese Blue Dragon ” which is a detailed chinoiserie Mason’s pattern, as illustrated on page 116 in The Mason’s Collectors Club book ” A Guide to Mason’s patent Ironstone patterns, circa 1813-circa 1848″ . The pattern is printed in different shades of cobalt blue <\/p>\n

Both the base and the lid are marked with the printed Mason’s large crown marks and the impressed mark ” Masons Patent Ironstone China”, dating the pieces to circa 1818, the English, Late Georgian period.<\/p>\n

Overall a very beautiful piece of early Mason’s, for display or use.<\/span><\/p>\n
