\n Excellent large and rare meissen figurine group from the 19th century: the winged zephyr, the gentle wind god, and flora, goddess of vegetation and blossom, loosely wrapped in cloths, standing side by side, flora placing a long garland of blossoms around her husband’s hips, embracing him, while her other hand rests on his chest, he holding the other end of the garland connecting them and lovingly touching his spouse’s chin with the index finger of his free hand. Based on a stepped, fluted square base with gold rims. Flora in roman mythology, flora is the goddess of blossom, in particular the blossom of grain. She is pursued in spring by the embodiment of the west wind zephyr and made his wife. She belongs to the circle of the vegetation gods, the gods of earth and agriculture, and is related to ceres, demeter and tellus. Her worship can be traced among the oscians and sabellian tribes of the central apennines. Flora was also the goddess of youth and the joyful enjoyment of life, and finally of pregnancy, whose symbol is the flower. Zephyr is one of the anemoi, a wind deity from greek mythology who embodies the (mild) west wind and was worshipped in antiquity as a messenger of spring and ‘ripener of seeds’.
