This charming little georgian bureau is particularly unusual in terms of its small size, something which is rarely found, especially in combination with the excellent quality of construction and timbers used.
It retains its original brass swan neck handles and its original shaped bracket feet, both of which are a good feature to find remaining after hundreds of years of no doubt heavy usage.
Bureaus are of course a precursor to the modern flat topped desk, first appearing around the late 17th century with their sloping fall fronts. They became incredibly popular throughout georgian england with most houses accomodating more than one of these incredibly useful pieces of antique furniture. A particular popular feature is the ability to just shut the flap on whatever work or correspondence you may be half way through and leave it for another time, without leaving the room in a mess, or having to pack everything away into drawers.
As with all items which we offer for sale this georgian mahogany bureau has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained, traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is in good, well presented condition, ready for immediate placement within the home or office before being offered for sale.
