The bowl is decorated in the Fence Vase and Dove chinoiserie influenced pattern, which shows a central flower filled vase, standing on a fenced wooden area, with a complex border which incorporates three roundels with doves and connected by a stylized floral design. The pattern is hand-painted in typical Mason’s bold enamels with additional hand gilding.
This pattern is illustrated on Page 98 and 99 of A Guide to Mason’s Patent Ironstone Patterns published by The Mason’s Collectors’ Club..
The underside has a border scroll pattern around the base rim with a Mason’s transfer-printed crown to the center, and pattern no. 1815 hand-painted in red on the inner base rim edge, dating this piece to the early part of the 19th century, 1820-1830.
