Oh, the peaceful sounds of a late night on the riverbank. There’s a breeze in the air blowing through the leaves of the tall trees above and slightly pushing the gentle waves to the shore. It’s dark, cool, oh-so quiet, and the anticipation of a fish hitting the end of the pole is high. The birds are circling and chirping and the moon shines down giving a lovely ambience to the distant waves. What’s that?? A nibble gently tugs at the pole… thank goodness! And just in time for dinner! At least, that’s the story I see when I gaze upon this phenomenal vintage end table by Heritage Furniture!! This is a gorgeous rectangular end table with intricately hand painted chinoiserie details on the tabletop and the legs and apron are carved with lovely patterns. The table is beautifully gilded on the legs, apron, and trim around the glass tabletop insert. The table is Chinoiserie in style, but its wonderful shape gives it a little Chinese Chippendale flare and it’s going to be beautiful in your sitting room beside a nice lounge chair, in your living room beside the chaise, or on its own in a hallway under a mirror or gorgeous piece of artwork.
Heritage Furniture was acquired by Drexel in 1951. Drexel Furniture Company was founded in 1903 in Drexel, North Carolina by six businessmen for a total investment of $14,000.00. Sam Huffman, one of the initial founders, managed the enterprise until his death in 1935 when his son, Robert O. Huffman took the helm. By 1950 under the younger Huffman’s leadership Drexel had grown from a small factory to a leader in furniture manufacturing. They acquired other furniture companies along the way and by the late 1950s employed 2300 workers. The 1960s had them adding industrial and hospitality furniture to their lines. In 1968 they were purchased again, and Drexel Enterprises became Drexel Heritage Furnishings, Inc. They continued to add to their styles and lines and were sold again and then in 1986 became part of Masco Corporation one of the country’s largest furniture manufacturers. They are now based in High Point, NC and operate ten factories in North Carolina and one in South Carolina and are one of the leading furniture manufacturers in the world.
This is a FABUOLUS chinoiserie end table by an iconic manufacturer. Surely you love it as much as we do. Well… what are you waiting for? Make it yours!!
