Both pieces are well potted. The dish is square with a notched rim. The cover has an oval shape with canted corners and a shaped knob handle to its top.
The pattern is called ” Chinese Blue Dragon ” which is a detailed chinoiserie Mason’s pattern, as illustrated on page 116 in The Mason’s Collectors Club book ” A Guide to Mason’s patent Ironstone patterns, circa 1813-circa 1848″ . The pattern is printed in different shades of cobalt blue
Both the base and the lid are marked with the printed Mason’s large crown marks and the impressed mark ” Masons Patent Ironstone China”, dating the pieces to circa 1818, the English, Late Georgian period.
Overall a very beautiful piece of early Mason’s, for display or use.
