A fine chinoiserie japanned serving tray with a floral and figurative motif. This beautiful tray will be perfect for serving drinks at your next cocktail party. Created from papier mâché (or paper mâché) the sides are scalloped, with rounded corners. The background has been japanned in heavy black paint. On top, a figurative still life chinoiserie scene has been applied by hand in blue, green and gold. The painting depicts a man and woman in a garden. The woman wears a blue traditional dress, and the man sits in a gold chair, and wears a traditional green robe with gold accents. A tree of life is painted at the center between the couple and features a bountiful vase of flowers. The bottom of the tray is lacquered in a bold red.
