This refined Italian bench in Art Deco style features a solid rectangular frame with a comfortable upholstered cushion. The legs, which are solidly attached to the ends, boast a strong and functional design made of ebonized wood. The bench was created between 1950 and 1955 in an artisan workshop in Cantù. Located in the province of Como in Lombardy, Italy, Cantù is renowned for its tradition in luxury furniture production. It is considered an important center for furniture craftsmanship, known for high-quality, designer pieces. Luxury furniture production in Cantù is characterized by excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the use of high-quality materials. The city also attracts internationally renowned designers and architects who collaborate with local artisans to create unique, custom-made pieces. In creating our bench, the artisans aimed to devise a small object with bold, simple lines, resulting in a piece with timeless elegance. Its design balances austerity and strictness, and its exaggerated linearity gives the bench a dynamic and elegant character. Recently, the bench was restored by an old master craftsman from Prato, who skillfully handcrafted the new cushion cover using a special and important fabric: a heavy Prince of Wales linen from the Dedar collection. Founded in 1976 in Lombardy, Dedar is a high-end textile company known for its creativity and high-quality fabrics. Their production excellence is due to the expertise of artisans and textile experts who master the techniques used in creating exclusive and original fabrics. Dedar’s products reflect a unique style, creating collections that are always at the forefront of high fashion for upholstery fabrics. The Italian style and design of this Lombard company are renowned worldwide. The “Prince of Wales” fabric is best known for its distinctive check pattern with overlapping lines of contrasting colors. The name is a tribute to Edward VII (1841-1910), who later became King of England and, as a young Prince of Wales, was known for his refined taste in clothing. This fabric has become synonymous with elegance and sophistication, largely due to its association with the British royal family and sartorial style. The “Prince of Wales” pattern is one of the most recognizable and classic designs in the fashion world. It can be used in a variety of contexts, from formal to casual, and is prized for its ability to add a touch of class to any garment. The restored bench is in excellent condition. Its dimensions are: width 55 cm, depth 37 cm, height 45 cm, and seat height 45 cm.
