19th century Chippendale burl walnut partners writing desk
This desk has functional drawers on both sides, a true partner’s desk. This desk is made of walnut and has oak-lined drawers, but is covered with a burl walnut veneer (old-style veneer) which is in a panel look separated by a herringbone inlay and straight grain veneer. This desk is on a larger scale (notice size) and would be an exceptional focal piece. The desk has superb quality and shows this not only with the veneer work but also in the quality of the cabriole and claw ball legs. Perfect scale for the size. The cabriole legs are detailed with leaf and scroll designs surrounding a medallion style knee centered with a bellflower on the knee. Above this a protruding scroll (showing the craftsmanship). The case has a complimentary scalloped apron to all sides. This is a special piece purchased in England. One thing to note is the top is made in a six matched burl walnut panel look. There has been a small hair-line separation which was repaired much earlier. Looks very good though.
