A very fine sterling silver tea service by silversmith Peter Michael Lunn circa 1979, the exceptional workmanship is evident in the casting and finishing work throughout. A heavy and solid set, the surfaces are part textured with a magnificent hammered effect that draws lines in veins down and around the sides of each piece. The set was acquired in 2003 from Payne & Son Goldsmiths Limited in Oxford, England and has been held in a private collection since. Exquisite and visually magnetic, this is a very fine acquisition for the modern interior.

Detailed Alfred Meakin Staffordshire Fair Winds Tea Set – 1 Teapot, 1 Teapot Lid, 10 Teacups and 10 Saucers.

The pattern of this wonderful tea set for 10 was created from original copper engravings depicting historical scenes of Chinese Export to America. The pattern is titled “The Friendship of Salem”.

The scenes on the saucer feature a federal eagle crest and the New York Harbor in 1830. The Latin words “E. Pluribus Unum” can be seen at the top of the saucer. The teacups feature two scenes, a woman saying goodbye to her lover in a sailors farewell and the crest of New York harbor. The teapot features the Grand Turk and the USS Constitution tall ships under full sail. There are waves frothing at the edge of each boat.

This wonderful set is perfect for coffee or tea after a dinner party or having afternoon tea with friends. The set is equally at home in English Traditional or more Eclectic settings. The reddish brown and antique white colors of the tea set set allow it to blend wonderfully with autumnal and holiday tablescapes.
