This lovely tea set for four sits on a large lazy-Susan which spins the set around for easy access. Made at the turn-of the-century it evokes the genteel shape and practicality of a full sized tea pot, four matching cups and saucers, creamer and sugar, all decorated with apple green enamels and gold trim, in the Chinese taste. The set can be used together or the wonderfully large, lazy Susan can be used for hor’s d’oeuvres and desserts- a practical and beautiful addition!
The lazy Susan measures 22″ in diameter, 5 1/2″ tall, the teapot is 9″ across and 6″ tall, the cups are 4″ in diameter and 2 1/4″ tall.

Vista Alegre for Mottahedeh ‘Lowestoft Rose’ Porcelain Demitasse Set

This 17 piece porcelain demitasse set was made by Vista Alegre of Portugal for Mottahedeh. The pieces have been finished in the heavily gilded Lowestoft Rose pattern which features a chinoiserie motif consisting of floral decoration executed in shades of red, pink and purple with green and teal foliage. The pattern also incorporates a variety of elaborate tapestries and detailed insects.

The set is comprised of a lidded teapot, covered sugar bowl, cream jug and 6 demitasse cups and saucers. All of the pieces are marked for Vista Alegre and Mottahedeh.

The cups stand 2.125″ tall and are 2.235″ in diameter at the mouth while the saucers are 4.5″ in diameter. The sugar bowl is 4.25″ tall and 6.125″ as measured from the outside edges of its handles. The cream jug stands 3.25″ tall and 5.5″ from the back edge of its handle to the front of the spout.

A striking and hard to find set in excellent condition.

19th Century Austrian Chinoiserie Solid Silver Tea Set, Klinkosch, c.1880

Antique late-19th century Austrian Chinoiserie solid silver three piece tea set, comprising of a teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug. Exceptionally hand crafted, of melon shape, repousse and finely chased work, depicting people of nobility surrounded by blossom trees and pogodas on finely tooled ground, applied with serpent motif handles and the hinged lid topped with a ball shaped finial. Such recurring scenes were favourite of Chinese court and painters of the Ming Dynasty and would continue to be used in later Chinese works of Art.
The style of the pieces closely resembles the examples from the 17th century, a Chinese Export Silver coffee pot made circa 1670 of similar style, is now in the Royal Collection in the UK and is to be found in Queen Victoria’s former private seaside residence on the Isle of Wight, Osborne House.
What makes this coffee pot particularly unique is that it was only in 1652 that the first coffee house in London was opened. Undoubtedly this set was based around a similar piece that was probably in the Austrian Royal collection. Hallmarked Austrian silver (Diana’s head 3, 800 standard), Vienna, Maker’s mark J.C.K (Joseph Carl Klinkosch, Royal Silversmith, active 1822-1888) was a highly skilled Viennese silversmith, who flourished in 19th century, Europe.

First Period Worcester Tea Bowl Mansfield Pattern

This First period Worcester porcelain tea bowl is decorated with the hand painted Mansfield pattern and a hand painted border (refer border pattern No 29, page 409 “Worcester Blue and White Porcelain”, Branyan, French and Sandon.). It has a diameter of 65 mm (2 5/8ths inches) and stands 41 mm (1.65 inches) high. It is in excellent condition and dates from around 1770.

Ridgway Hand Coloured Porcelain Teapot and Stand

This finely moulded John and William Ridgway porcelain teapot and stand is decorated with the hand coloured printed pattern 2/818, which features a large urn and scholars rocks amid floral Chinoiserie. It is unmarked, but corresponds to Plate 1798 in Miller and Berthoud’s “An Anthology of British Teapots”. It is also shown in Colour Plate 8 and Plate 96 in Godden’s “Ridgway Porcelains”. The teapot stands 160 mm (6.25 inches) to the top of the butterfly knop and the stand has a diameter of 183 mm (7.25 inches). The colours are still vibrant and it displays well. There is a fine crack in the centre of the stand and some slight wear to the enamel. The only flaws on the teapot are two firing cracks, one about 12 mm (1/2 inch) long under the handle along the mould join, a 5 mm (1/4 inch) long one on the inside, and some cracks to the domed strainer. C1820-5.

Antique Royal Crown Derby Chinoiserie Styled Teapot, Cream & Sugar Set

This teapot and cream and sugar set were made by the well known Royal Crown Derby maker of England and dates to approximately 1850 and done in the period Chinoiserie style. The set is composed of porcelain with a small, possibly two cup teapot and a miniature creamer and covered sugar pot. The set is decorated with hand painted flowers with an orange glaze in a Chinoiserie style. Each piece, including the underside of the lids, are clearly marked with the orange Royal Crown Derby cypher with the crossed “Ds” underneath with a registry number.
