A fine mid-18th century style carved white marble fireplace. The crisp, flowing carving to the frieze and jambs is reflective of the Chinoiserie work of Thomas Chippendale (1718-1779) in the mid-18th century.

The basket with elegantly curved front bars and double shafts to ends surmounted by ornate bell finials. The cylindrical legs on square plinths, surmounted by larger steel finials. Plain fireback. A polished steel and cast-iron fire grate of Chippendale form. The railed serpentine front above a pierced and engraved frieze with dragon and floral detail amidst foliate scrolls, flanked by fluted column uprights with elongated urn finials on stepped plinths. Restored.
