George III Regency period mahogany sofa table in the manner of Thomas Chippendale the Younger. The rounded rectangular twin flap top cross banded in satinwood with two cedar lined frieze drawers inlaid with brass stringing on gilt metal mounted Egyptian channelled caryatid supports. With square tapering legs and Sphinx style gilt metal mounts. The base of a writing table made by Chippendale the Younger for Stourhead, Wilts is illustrated in R. Edwards’ and P. MacQuoid’s “The Dictionary of English Furniture,” 1954. Vol. III, p. 258, fig. 44. Appriser’s Description: English George III mahogany sofa table in the manner of Thomas Chippendale the Younger, the top with rounded corners and inlaid cross banded border, the apron set with two fitted drawers with inlaid stringing supported on tapered legs with cast brass Egyptian motif heads as the capitals and brass feet raised on short supports, circa 1810.
