It’s pretty rare to find partners desks of any form from the 18th century which remain in good condition as it goes without saying that over the years desks are the kind of item which more often than not get used and abused by their many owners.
In todays market a huge majority of the partners desk which you will find available for sale would have been made from the mid 19th Century onwards. It is much, much, less common to find 18th century examples available for sale, especially ones of any great size.
There are signs of wear, which one would expect to find on any antique desk, showing that it has been used throughout its life, but it has been lovingly cleaned and naturally waxed using the traditional techniques in our workshops before being offered for sale and also the leather has been replaced. All drawers have fully operational locks and keys.
The eventual proud owner however should certainly not be scared to use it. All antique furniture was made originally with function, practicality and a purpose in mind and that is very much worth remembering.
