English Georgian Chippendale period plum pudding mahoganypiecrust tilt and turn table. This tea table is beautifully carved with the top being a single board, the pedestal base having carving to the stem as well as sophisticated acanthus leaf carving to the knees and toes of the three cabriole legs. As one expects with an 18th century piecrust table, the elegant piecrust edge is achieved by carving out the central area of the table top and forming the edge through painstaking carving of the whole (in later tables the carved edge was applied on top of the board, which cut down on the amount of labor and the expertise needed to achieve a piecrust table). This table retains its original birdcage mechanism which allows the table top to rotate. Circa 1770.
