The piece is well potted with a star shaped moulded rim .
The pattern is hand-painted and gilded over-glaze with typical bold enamels in one of Mason’s earliest Chinoiserie influenced designs called the “Muscove Duck” pattern, as illustrated on page 125 of a guide to Mason’s patent ironstone patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason’s Collectors’ Club. The level of hand enamelling on this piece is excellent, with much additional hand gilding, all producing striking decoration on this rare pattern.
The base carries one of the earliest puce printed Mason’s marks with MASON’S above a rounded crown and banner stating; Patent Ironstone China , dating this piece to circa 1825.
Overall a rare and striking piece of Mason’s Ironstone, in lovely condition, for use or display.
