Antique serving tray from France at the beginning of the 19th century.
The oval metal tray has an all-round gallery border with 2 handles.
The gallery border has a beautiful hand-punched linear decoration, the upper edge is slightly rounded,
the lower part of the edging is slightly offset inwards so that there is also a round protrusion of approx. 2 mm.
The black metal is decorated with a slightly sculptural chinoiserie painting in gold and brown-red-green.
The depiction on the inside shows houses, hilly landscapes and trees – all very light-footedly staged.
There are flatly coloured parts and delicate lines that together create a very flowing picture.
The back of the tray is coloured black.

In the broadest sense, the term chinoiserie encompasses forms of design in art, handicrafts and architecture that are inspired by Chinese art, but also by other exotic countries such as Japan or India.
