This gorgeous centerpiece has been created by the fortuitous marriage of a 17th century, Kangxi Period Famille verte enameled porcelain charger, with a set of custom 19th century French gilt bronze ormolu mounts.
The Chinese porcelain charger is skillfully painted in the traditional Famille verte palette with the scene of long tailed birds in a lush floral garden setting. A standard Kangki Period mark of double circles in underglaze blue decorates the base.
The French ormolu mounts, designed as intertwining ribbons of acanthus, are crisply cast and richly gilded. The feet, also designed as acanthus, playfully imitate the more traditional and expected design of ball and clawed feet.
